Investigators in the Thanasis Kalogeropoulos murder case today presented new evidence before the court seeking to extend the detention of two suspects, aged 22 and 21.

The lawyers of the suspects did not raise objections to the request.

The Limassol District Court approved the request made by the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigators, leading to the extension of the detention of the two individuals for an additional five days.

The proceedings commenced at 10:30 a.m., with the case investigator, Kostas Michael, presenting a comprehensive account of the events surrounding the case.

Michael revealed that within the charred vehicle used in the execution of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos, incinerated weapons, clothing, and bullets were discovered. He further indicated that reliable information suggested that on October 25, the two suspects, including the 21-year-old, had trailed Kalogeropoulos with the intention of carrying out a murder plot. However, the plan was thwarted for reasons yet to be ascertained.

The investigator disclosed that surveillance cameras recorded the vehicles owned by the suspects visiting a mansion in Skarinou in the days leading up to the murder. Notably, one of the BMW vehicles, identified as being in their possession, was found burned in an area south of the mansion on October 26.

The burned vehicle was confirmed as the one driven by the suspects on the preceding day (October 25). Investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen and bore fraudulent plates belonging to a Mazda Demio.

A black spray paint can was discovered in the possession of the 21-year-old suspect, indicating potential efforts by the perpetrators to alter the appearance of the vehicle used in Kalogeropoulos’ murder. Specifically, the door handles of the Demio were painted black, possibly in an attempt to avoid identification.

At the residence of the 21-year-old suspect, investigators found a jumpsuit resembling the one worn by the alleged perpetrator, a 41-year-old motorcycle rider.

Telecommunication data from the 41-year-old suggested that he received signals from an area of the mansion in Skarinou belonging to the 44-year-old suspect. Additionally, his mobile signal was traced to Livadia, where the 21-year-old resides, in the early hours of the day of the murder (October 30). It is alleged that he used the murder vehicle to pick up the 21-year-old, executing their plan.

The two suspects are now under investigation for six offences, including conspiracy to commit murder, premeditated murder, possession, transportation, and use of a firearm, possession, transportation, and use of explosive materials, vehicle arson, and theft.
