The incident unfolded on Monday morning at the Germasogeia beach area, where Kalogeropoulos routinely started his day with a morning swim. In a swift and brutal attack, executed by two hooded assailants, the victim was killed inside his own vehicle.

Kalogeropoulos arrived at the beachside restaurant’s parking lot at approximately 8:25 a.m. for his routine swim. Eyewitnesses recall a usual crowd of beachgoers present at the time of the event.

The assailants, seemingly tailing Kalogeropoulos in a stolen vehicle from previous days, ambushed him armed with firearms and wearing balaclavas.

The incident saw the victim engaged in conversation with an acquaintance in the parking lot when the suspects launched their assault. The first attacker fired shots, causing Kalogeropoulos to attempt an escape in his car, but he collided with a wall due to his injuries. A second assailant then fired multiple shots from close range, sealing the victim’s fate.

Questions linger about the victim’s actions, as it remains unclear whether he attempted to flee the scene, with his car door left ajar and one foot hanging outside. The execution by the two hooded figures saw them swiftly flee the scene, leaving the area and heading west. Police reports suggest at least one more person may have been in the assailants’ vehicle.

Shortly after the attack, the vehicle used by the assailants was discovered engulfed in flames near a roundabout north of Germasogeia. Traces of the murder weapons were found burnt within the vehicle.

Lefteris Kyriacou, spokesperson for the Limassol Crime Investigation Department, stated, “We’re delving into individuals who had associations with the deceased. He (Kalogeropoulos) was a known figure to authorities and had been involved in various investigations. This appears to be a meticulously planned operation.”

Witness statements and surveillance cameras from the area have already been acquired by authorities to aid in the investigation.
