Larnaca and Limassol will learn their fate at 12:30 pm today when Cyprus announces which city wins the European Capital of Culture 2030 title and the €1.5 million prize that comes with it.

The announcement ends years of work for both cities and their delegations, who are feeling cautious optimism and sweet exhaustion coupled with the belief they did their best to meet the demands of the long, arduous race.

The European Commission awards each European Capital of Culture the Melina Mercouri Prize worth €1.5 million, funded through the Creative Europe programme, as recognition of the quality of the preparatory process.

The Expert Committee visited Larnaca on Monday and Limassol on Tuesday before the ten-member delegations from each city presented their vision in detail on Wednesday. The 12-member committee received the final dossiers from both candidate cities one month ago.

Larnaca and Limassol made the shortlist of Cyprus’s leading candidate cities last February.

The results announcement broadcasts live on YouTube and on the Deputy Ministry of Culture’s social media channels.
