The 27th Logicom Cyprus Marathon officially welcomed thousands of participants as the registration expo opened at the “En Plo” exhibition hall near Paphos Medieval Castle, marking the start of the two-day sporting event.
More than 4,500 runners will participate in this year’s races, with over 2,000 athletes travelling from 60 different countries to compete in what has become a major international sporting and cultural event for the region.
The race programme begins with the 5km Sunset Run at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, starting and finishing at Paphos Medieval Castle Square. On Sunday, the full marathon will commence at 7:00 a.m. from Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite’s Rock), with runners finishing at the castle. The half-marathon starts at 8:00 a.m., followed by the 10km race at 8:20 a.m., both beginning and ending at the castle.
Traffic authorities have announced significant road closures and diversions to accommodate the event.
The marathon route will follow the old Limassol-Paphos road (B6) through the communities of Kouklia, Mandria, Timi, Achelia and Koloni before reaching Paphos. The Paphos-bound lane will be closed from the B6 junction at Mandria entrance (near ALFAMEGA supermarket) to Koloni roundabout from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with traffic diverted to the motorway.
Access to Paphos Airport will remain open but controlled by police, while the Limassol-bound lane will operate normally.
Additional traffic arrangements for the half-marathon and 10km race will see closures of Poseidonos Avenue (from the Medieval Castle to Geroskipou beach), Eratous Avenue, and all connecting roads between 7:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.
The Paphos Marathon is dedicated to the memory of Stelios Kyriakides, the marathoner who brought honour to Cyprus and Greece with his historic victory in the 50th Boston Marathon in 1946.
Motorists are advised to avoid affected routes during race hours and to comply with traffic signs and police instructions to minimise disruption.
