Sweden’s Armand Duplantis has been named World Athletics’ top male field athlete for 2024, beating Olympic long jump champion Miltos Tentoglou of Greece.
The pole vault world record holder, who cleared 6.25 metres in Chorzow, Poland, won the non-track events category in the governing body’s annual awards.
Tentoglou, who successfully defended his Olympic long jump title in Paris, finished as runner-up in the category.
In other categories, Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo won the men’s track award, while Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola took the out-of-stadium honours. For the women, American Sydney McLaughlin won the track category, Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh claimed the field events award, and Dutch athlete Sifan Hassan was named top out-of-stadium performer.
The awards were split into six categories this year, with separate honours for track, field, and out-of-stadium achievements for both men and women.
