Cyprus is hosting the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Group C matches in Limassol from 28 August to 4 September, marking the country’s first-ever participation in the European basketball championship whilst providing a major platform for international tourism promotion.

Deputy Tourism Minister Costas Koumis described the tournament as “a first-class opportunity for promoting Cyprus internationally, both as a tourist destination and as a venue capable of hosting major sporting events.”

The matches will take place at the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Centre, with the Organising Committee expecting thousands of foreign visitors to boost tourism and local businesses. Television broadcasts and social media coverage are anticipated to reach hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide.

Koumis emphasised that the event benefits from participation by five high-level national teams and more than 80 athletes and accompanying staff, alongside Cyprus’s historic first-ever EuroBasket participation.

“The presence of our national team is an honour for the country and symbolises the high level of the tournament,” he noted.

Limassol is already “beating to EuroBasket rhythms”, with a Fan Zone at the Old Port offering entertainment events and live viewing of all matches. Foreign journalists covering the tournament will visit Lefkara to experience local gastronomy and Cypriot culture.

The Deputy Tourism Minister highlighted sports tourism as a strategic government priority, announcing support for other international events scheduled in Cyprus in the coming period.
