All eyes will be on Cypriot gymnast Marios Georgiou on Monday as he competes in the Men’s Horizontal Bar final at the Bercy Arena.

The 26-year-old secured his place in the final with an eighth-place finish in the qualifying round.

Georgiou, coached by Panagiotis Petridis, is a seasoned competitor, having represented Cyprus at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics. His qualification for Paris came after winning the gold medal at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rimini, Italy, and the Pommel Horse title at the Munich European Championships.

Coach Petridis expressed cautious optimism ahead of the final, acknowledging the tough competition but highlighting the potential for anything to happen in the high-pressure environment.

“We’re doing well, we’re going to compete, we’re not the favourite of the game, but in the final, I believe, in the pommel horse, anything can happen, and our duty is for us to go and compete as best we can, and then enjoy, I think, this distinction, whatever happens,” Petridis said.

The final will start at 2:30 p.m. Cyprus time.
