EDEK President Nikos Anastasiou tendered his resignation before the party’s Central Committee on Sunday morning, taking his share of the responsibility for the party’s failure to enter parliament.
The Central Committee is currently reviewing the parliamentary election results and discussing its next steps following the negative outcome.
Sources told philenews that the EDEK leader spoke first at the meeting. He noted that he had been considering resignation since election night but believed it was wiser to let the Central Committee make the final decision.
The Committee will issue its decision once all members finish their addresses. The meeting is expected to last for several hours.
