For the first time in the history of the Republic of Cyprus, a physical polling station has been established in Brussels for a legislative election, marking a major milestone for the local Cypriot diaspora.
All prior voting processes organized in the Belgian capital were limited strictly to presidential elections.
According to election officials, voter turnout at the Brussels center reached 20 per cent by 12:00 PM Cyprus time, with 116 out of 583 registered electors having already cast their ballots. Officials described the overall voting procedure as smooth and orderly.
The Brussels polling station holds a unique status in this election cycle as the only station operating outside Cyprus that contains ballot boxes representing all six of the island’s traditional administrative districts:
- Nicosia
- Famagusta
- Limassol
- Larnaca
- Kyrenia
- Paphos
Because the station serves voters from every district, election workers will conduct six entirely separate ballot counts once the voting window officially closes. Following the completion of the local counts, all physical voting materials and ballots will be securely packaged and repatriated to Cyprus, while the final results will be officially verified and announced from Nicosia.
