Annita Demetriou pulls out of DISY presidential nomination race

DISY leader Annita Demetriou has withdrawn her bid for the party’s nomination for the 2028 presidential elections, following a meeting with Averof Neofytou and Giorgos Pamborides at the party’s headquarters in Nicosia on Thursday.

Neofytou and Pamborides will contest the nomination in an internal party vote set for November 28. The three are expected to make joint statements.

Demetriou announced in late September that she would seek the nomination, a day after Neofytou, the party’s former leader, announced his own candidacy. Pamborides, a DISY parliament member and former health minister, launched his bid earlier this month.

Earlier on Thursday, sources at party headquarters said Demetriou wanted to reach a compromise among the three so the party could go into the 2028 election united. That followed an initiative by Pamborides to bring the three to an understanding.
