According to the UNFICYP press office, media access at the meeting of the two leaders at Ledra Palace was to be restricted to only CyBC/Bayrak and CNA/TAK news agencies.
These designated outlets were meant to function as a pool, providing footage and photographs to all other media organisations.
Once again, we see CyBC exploiting its position as the state broadcaster, failing to limit itself to its pool function. CyBC was the only channel with live coverage from the venue, and the CyBC representative was the only one who asked questions.
Meanwhile, they claim to care about press freedom and journalists’ rights! In situations where journalists and all media outlets should have the right to be present, restrictions are being imposed in an unacceptable and provocative manner.
