Once again, our MPs are taking the public for fools. They have announced, with great solemnity, that consumers will not bear the cost of compensation payments for excess kilowatt-hours generated by solar panels — because an amendment, they tell us, expressly prohibits it. What they are not saying is that if the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) is forced to foot that bill from its reserves — money earmarked for infrastructure and essential works — it will need to plug that hole from somewhere else. And when the EAC needs money, there is only one place it ever comes from. It doesn’t matter how you pay for something, but that you will pay for it. And for those who don’t know, it’s the poor taxpayer who subsidises those with solar panels. When the price per kilowatt-hour goes up, they shouldn’t complain tomorrow that they didn’t know.
Ζακ.
