The defenders of our nation and faith continue their parade across radio and television. “Proud Christian Orthodox,” declared Chrysanthos Savvides from Paphos yesterday. Orthodox, mind you—don’t confuse him with those Catholics, Maronites and other such inferior types.
Jokes aside, the situation with Giorgos Gavriel’s artworks has spiralled out of control. It would be wise for panels not to be packed exclusively with representatives of one view only, as we saw yesterday with Efthymios Diplaros, Soteris Ioannou and Chrysanthos Savvides on a single programme.
If we’re going to keep discussing—which we shouldn’t—an issue that in no other country in the Western world would dominate public discourse, let’s at least do it with multiple voices. Not with blacklisting and excommunications from one direction only.
