The Mafia State report, combined with the decision by the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General to recuse themselves from the case, should have been the perfect opportunity for the two to resign and leave the Law Office.
It is now painfully clear that the leadership of the General Prosecutor’s Office is unable to fulfil its duties, generating confusion and prolonging debate in a case that has already sparked political shockwaves and public outrage.
At the same time, legal experts point out daily that the report from the independent criminal investigators will eventually land back in the hands of the two officials who have already declared a conflict of interest in performing their duties. Calls for their resignation are mounting by the day — from political parties, members of parliament, and legal professionals alike.
Yet, as it seems, Giorgos Savvides and Savvas Angelides are ignoring everyone and everything, clinging stubbornly to their chairs.
