Decision on Thursday whether CFA head Koumas should be investigated over conflict of interest

Police and Ethics and Sports Protection Committee members on Thursday will decide whether an investigation should begin into a possible conflict of interest of Cyprus Football Association President George Koumas.

Koumas owns several companies which manage football broadcasting rights and there is evidence that a number of these had been sold to CytaVision – owned by semi-governmental CYTA. These rights amounted to millions of euros.

Philenews also reported on Thursday that insiders said additional evidence is expected to be sought from the Republic’s Audit Office as well.

Auditor General Odyseas Michaelides who first raised the issue in a June 2014 report without naming Koumas and his companies gave a detailed memorandum on this to Parliament last week.

The memorandum records details of the multi-million-euro contracts that Kouma’s companies of interest had with CYTA over the years.

In addition, Kouma’s company of interest – Triple AAA Productions Ltd – carried out football match productions for CyTA from 2013 to 2019.

Moreover, CyTA board chairman Michael Ioannidis last Wednesday said the semi-governmental organisation currently has five contracts in effect with Koumas’ companies of interests.
