A 46-year-old woman is in critical but stable condition after allegedly being shot by her husband in Pegeia.
The victim was initially treated at Paphos Hospital before being transferred to Nicosia General Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit late last night following emergency surgery.
The 57-year-old suspect, who is the woman’s husband, is in police custody and is expected to appear before Paphos District Court today for a detention order, according to police.
Paphos Assistant Police Director Michalis Nicolaou said investigators are focusing on family-related disagreements and confrontations between the couple as the likely cause of the incident.
The shooting occurred at 6:00 p.m. yesterday when residents alerted Pegeia Police Station that a man had shot his wife with a hunting rifle outside their home. Officers arrived to find the woman bleeding from gunshot wounds. The suspect remained at the scene and was immediately arrested.
A medical examiner and members of the Police Headquarters Forensics Service conducted an investigation at the scene last night.
