The Department of Road Transport launched its 2025 vehicle licence renewal period on Tuesday.
The renewal period will run until March 11, 2025, at midnight, with motorists able to renew their licences for periods of three, six, nine or twelve months, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works said.
Renewals completed after the March deadline will incur a penalty fee of 10 euros plus 10 percent of the licence fee for the current year. Valid vehicle inspection certificates and insurance are required for renewal.
The department warned that vehicles without renewed licences for 2024 and not declared as immobilised will be removed from its registry if owners fail to pay outstanding fees and renew for 2025 by the March deadline.
All renewals must be completed online, except for vehicles belonging to embassies, large families’ private buses, quarries, vintage vehicles with special permits, United Nations vehicles, and certain organisations with exemption code 04.
Vehicle owners must update their contact details in the department’s registry to receive important notifications, including recall information. The department will not send renewal reminders to vehicle owners.
Owners who do not plan to renew their licences for 2025 must submit an immobilisation notice to the department, which can be done through its website. Failure to do so will result in continued liability for licence fees.
