The UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin, will hold separate meetings with negotiators from both sides of the Cyprus divide this week, according to sources, as preparations continue for a trilateral summit in New York later this month.

On Tuesday, Holguin will meet with Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaou, followed by a meeting with Turkish Cypriot negotiator Güneş Onar on Wednesday, sources indicate.

The UN envoy will also meet with the newly established Technical Committee for Youth on Tuesday afternoon, whilst during the week she will visit cemeteries where work is being conducted through the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage, both in the occupied areas and in government-controlled territories.

Tomorrow at 11am, Holguin will meet with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar in the occupied areas.

The UN Secretary-General’s envoy arrived in Cyprus on Thursday evening and on Friday held a meeting with President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, within the framework of preparing for the trilateral meeting between the two leaders and the UN Secretary-General in New York at the end of September, following completion of the UN General Assembly proceedings.

Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated after the Christodoulides-Holguin meeting on Friday that the UN proposed 27 September, a Saturday, for the New York trilateral summit.

Yesterday morning, Holguin visited Büyük Han in occupied Nicosia, where for decades Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Maronites, and other Cypriots have been meeting socially every Saturday morning.
