The British bases in Cyprus have not hosted any Israeli military personnel or aircraft since before the start of the Israel-Hamas war, a source from the UK Government told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
In response to a question from the CNA, following a warning by the Hezbollah leader against Cyprus, the source emphasized that “the Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus have not hosted any Israeli military personnel or aircraft since before the start of the Israel-Hamas war.”
The same source conveyed the concern in London over the situation along the so-called “Blue Line,” the border between Lebanon and Israel, highlighting the need to respect UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
London recognizes and supports the essential stabilizing role played by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Lebanese Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, when asked by the Cyprus News Agency for an official statement from the UK government regarding this threat, a Foreign Office spokesperson addressed the tension between Israel and Hezbollah. She stated, “The risk of miscalculation at the Lebanon-Israel border is serious. We urge all parties involved to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation.”
