The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, will pay an official visit to Cyprus today, December 14, 2025, at the invitation of the President of the Republic, Mr Nikos Christodoulides.

Government Spokesperson Constantinos Letymbiotis described the event as a historic visit—the first by the UAE President to Cyprus—which formally confirms the new momentum developing in bilateral relations and the strategic depth and maturity these relations have acquired.

“This visit holds particular political significance, as it signals the transition of bilateral relations from strategic convergence to strategic implementation, with an emphasis on specific deliverables and tangible results. Simultaneously, it constitutes a resounding message of confidence towards the Republic of Cyprus as a reliable partner and stable hub in the Eastern Mediterranean, at a juncture of increased challenges for the region.”

Agenda and Key Outcomes

During his stay in Cyprus, the UAE President will hold a private meeting with the President of the Republic, followed by expanded talks between the delegations.

Discussions will focus on:

The further enhancement of bilateral relations, with a particular emphasis on investments, energy, and economic cooperation.

The upcoming assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union by the Republic of Cyprus on January 1, 2026, and the associated prospects for strengthening EU relations with the Gulf countries.

Regional developments and the latest on the Cyprus issue.

During the visit, the two leaders are expected to define specific cooperation initiatives in critical sectors, forming a practical roadmap for implementing the strategic relationship.

In parallel with the visit, relevant UAE Ministers and other officials are already in Cyprus. Yesterday, they participated in an investment forum with Invest Cyprus and CCCI (Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry), alongside a representative of the UAE Chamber and a business delegation. The goal is to further strengthen investment and business cooperation by establishing stable structures and promoting mature projects.

Following the meeting, the two Presidents will adopt a Joint Declaration outlining the decision to further upgrade the strategic relationship between the two countries.
