The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre mobilised twice yesterday off Limassol, activating the ‘Nearchos’ National Search and Rescue Plan to save two people.
As noted in a relevant statement, the first incident occurred in Amathounta, with the other occurring in waters off the central area of the coastal city.
Taking part in the rescue operation were a crew in a helicopter from the Police Aviation Operations Unit and a Port and Maritime Police vessel, which were placed on operational alert and quickly located the two people at risk, remaining at the scene until they reached ashore safely.
Competent authorities noted that the successful activation of the ‘Nearchos’ search and rescue plan, once again highlights the level of coordinated readiness in managing urgent incidents at sea.
