Two fires broke out along the road leading from Thalassines Spilies towards the Cavo Greco Environmental Information Centre, prompting an alert to the authorities, before passing citizens extinguished them.
According to the Forestry Department, it was notified of the two fire outbreaks at 10.37am. The citizens who put them out before they could spread received thanks from the department for their prompt response and contribution.
Forestry Department and fire service crews were sent to the area and secured the sites. The Forestry Department remains on alert, monitoring the area.
The cause of the fires is under investigation, with the possibility of a malicious act not ruled out.
