Cypriot authorities are on standby to evacuate European and third-country nationals from the Middle East should the regional crisis escalate, officials said on Tuesday.
The national plan ‘Estia’ has been activated in preparation for potential evacuations.
Hara Lazarou, Deputy Spokeswoman for Civil Defence, told the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) that the service has taken necessary measures to accommodate foreign nationals for periods ranging from a few hours to several days until repatriation flights can be arranged.
Lazarou confirmed that the first tents were erected on Monday at the Zenon Coordination and Rescue Centre in Larnaca as part of the preparatory measures.
