There is a surge in theft incidents of equipment and other assets from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus’s Distribution Network.
The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) informs the public through a statement that there has been a recent surge in theft incidents involving equipment and other assets from the Distribution Network of the EAC.
Specifically, the thefts primarily concern transformers located on wooden poles, conductors of Medium and Low Voltage overhead lines of the EAC’s Network, Network equipment within Distribution Substation buildings, as well as switches, poles, doors/entrances of Distribution Substations, etc.
The EAC emphasizes that the removal of equipment from an active EAC Network, aside from being a criminal offense, is extremely dangerous as it poses an immediate risk of electric shock, both for those removing the equipment from the Network and the general public.
Additionally, these interventions in the EAC’s Network may cause damage to consumers’ electrical appliances.
The organization, in collaboration with the Police, has decided to implement technical and other measures to prevent thefts and protect the Network.
The public is urged to be particularly cautious and, under no circumstances, enter the interior of a Distribution Substation from which the door has been removed.
Moreover, people should avoid approaching damaged EAC Networks or equipment. In case the public observes a missing door from an EAC Distribution Substation, suspicious activities of individuals or vehicles near the EAC Network without the Organization’s markings and logos, they are requested to contact the EAC immediately at the phone numbers 80006002 or 1800 to take necessary actions.
