The Pancyprian Student Coordinating Committee (PSEM) has declined to participate in a protest against school mobile phone restrictions, following a call by MEP Fidias Panayiotou for a demonstration at Eleftheria Square at 13:00.

The newly formed committee decided in a meeting that members would await their scheduled talks with Education Minister Athena Michaelidou on November 11 before considering any protest action.

The upcoming meeting is set to address various student concerns.

In a statement, PSEM outlined their opposition to the mobile phone ban whilst indicating they would first pursue dialogue with the Education Minister on a range of issues, including the phone restrictions, at the November meeting before deciding on any further measures.
