Approximately 70 people evacuated from fire-affected communities are being housed in temporary Civil Defence shelters across three locations, with accommodation provided in Trimiklini, Pachna, and Polemidia facilities.
Civil Defence Press Spokesman Panagiotis Liasidis confirmed to the Cyprus News Agency that emergency response teams were mobilised immediately following the recent wildfires affecting multiple communities.
Shelter distribution and capacity
Current accommodation includes 50 people housed at the Trimiklini facility and 20 at Pachna, whilst the Polemidια shelter remains operational but currently unoccupied.
“We have arranged and provided water and food at Trimiklini and Pachna and will also supply them with sheets and pillows to spend tonight and see until tomorrow how the situation develops,” Liasidis stated.
Essential supplies
Civil Defence authorities have established comprehensive support services including meals, drinking water, and overnight bedding at active shelter locations. Officials will assess residents’ return prospects following morning evaluations of community conditions and property damage.
Return assessment protocols
Tomorrow morning’s reassessment will determine how many evacuees can return to their homes based on property conditions and community safety status. Alternative arrangements will be established for residents whose homes have sustained damage or destruction.
“We will see how many can return, how many cannot, depending on the condition of their houses and accordingly we will see how we proceed,” Liasidis explained.
For residents whose properties have been damaged or destroyed, Civil Defence officials confirmed alternative solutions will be implemented. “Solutions will definitely be found for everyone,” Liasidis concluded.
