Authorities are now focusing their investigative efforts on the claims made by journalist Makarios Drousiotis against former judge Michalakis Christodoulou, as the woman at the centre of the allegations — known only as “Sandy” — continues to refuse to come forward.
“Sandy” called her own lawyer five or six times on the same day, each time with a withheld number. Her message was the same each time.
Speaking to Alpha channel, her lawyer Nicos Clerides said: “Up to the last conversation I had with her, after several calls she made to me today — five or six with a withheld number — she insisted that she does not want her identity revealed, nor does she want to give testimony.”
Clerides said the claims had been made public without “Sandy’s” knowledge or consent, and that she had reportedly never given instructions for the information to be disclosed in the way it was.
He said he himself had known about the information that has since come to light for a number of years, but stressed this did not amount to confirmation of the allegations.
He had shared it with persons of absolute trust for personal safety reasons — citing threats to his life that he said he had received in the past. Other persons from the legal world were also reportedly aware of the allegations, and it was through them that Drousiotis was informed.
Clerides said he had sent the material cited by Drousiotis abroad to be examined by specialist corruption investigators. He added that he had urged “Sandy” to go to the police — advice she flatly rejected.
“I told her to give a statement to the police. She did not want to. She was categorically against it, for understandable reasons,” he said.
