Heavy hail storms and landslides have disrupted traffic across Cyprus on Sunday, with police issuing safety warnings to motorists as conditions deteriorate.
The Platres-Troodos road and adjacent arteries have been closed due to rock and soil slides, authorities said.
Particularly intense hailstorms have been reported on the Limassol-Kalo Chorio route, with severe conditions also affecting road networks in the Avdimou and Pachna areas of Limassol district.
“Hail and water have accumulated on the road surface, making roads particularly slippery, while visibility is limited”, police said in a statement.
Police have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution, maintain safe distances from other vehicles, drive at reduced speeds, and keep their headlights on.
The intensity of the hailstorms has been described as “stone-like” by authorities, causing concerns about potential damage to vehicles in affected areas.
