Rain, thunderstorms and hail forecast through Monday

Relevant News

Cyprus faces a spell of unsettled weather through Monday, with rain, thunderstorms and hail all possible, the Department of Meteorology has warned.

A weak low-pressure system and unstable air mass are affecting the island. Today, patchy low cloud and localised fog will give way to partly cloudy skies, with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected from midday, mainly in the mountains, northern areas and inland. Hail is possible during any thunderstorm. Winds will gust up to force five. Fog patches are expected again overnight.

Temperatures will reach around 29°C inland, 24°C on the coast and 16°C in the higher mountains.

Saturday will be mainly cloudy, with isolated coastal showers in the morning giving way to more widespread rain and thunderstorms by afternoon, particularly in the mountains and the eastern half of the island, where conditions could be more intense. Hail is expected during thunderstorms.

On Sunday and Monday, cloud will build through the day, with isolated morning showers on the coast and afternoon thunderstorms inland, in the mountains and in the east. Hail remains possible. Temperatures will drop on Saturday, particularly inland and in the mountains, and are expected to remain below seasonal averages through Monday.
