A fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon in two apartments of a two-storey building in Protaras, in the Famagusta district, with residents helped out of the building by a neighbour and emergency services personnel.
The Fire Service received the call at 2:30pm. The fire started on the balcony of a second-floor apartment and spread to a ground-floor apartment.
The residents of the apartment where the fire broke out were inside at the time. A neighbour entered through the main entrance and helped them get out to an open area.
An ambulance crew that arrived at the scene examined the residents on site.
A resident of a neighbouring apartment, who is paraplegic, was helped out of the building by an off-duty Fire Service member and a police officer, before fire engines arrived.
Three fire engines, a telescopic hydraulic platform and a breathing-apparatus transport vehicle responded to put out the fire.
