Police have heightened security measures ahead of tonight’s football match between Omonia and Legia Warsaw after discovering that about 200 Polish supporters obtained fan cards from the Cyprus Sports Organisation (CSO) and secured match tickets.
Police intervened by requesting the suspension of these fan cards until tomorrow and halted the issuance of new cards to other Polish supporters.
According to philenews sources, approximately 600 Legia supporters have arrived in Cyprus, with some staying in the occupied areas.
The police are working closely with two Polish officers who have arrived in Cyprus through the Anti-Hooliganism Office. These officers are familiar with Polish hooligan tactics and behaviour patterns.
Police sources indicated that of the 600 Polish supporters, about 150 are considered potential troublemakers. Those who obtained match tickets would have been dispersed throughout the stadium rather than concentrated in one area.
Law enforcement is conducting patrols in areas where the supporters are staying or gathering to prevent any disruptive behaviour. Security measures will be intensified before, during, and after tonight’s match until the Polish supporters depart.
