Two police officers have been suspended after a video emerged showing them engaged in an intimate act in a rural area of Larnaca whilst on duty, with their patrol car nearby.
Police announced that both officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave pending criminal and disciplinary investigations. The force confirmed that instructions have been given to verify the authenticity of the video and conduct related checks.
“At first glance, the video appears to correspond to reality, and thus instructions were given for criminal and disciplinary investigation of the offences that arise. As a result, two members of the Police will be placed on administrative leave,” the police statement read.
The controversial footage, which has been circulating beyond Cyprus, shows a male and female officer in a compromising position on agricultural land in the Larnaca area, between Dromolaxia and Aradippou.
The video was reportedly filmed by a member of the public using a mobile phone.
The incident has prompted efforts to identify the two individuals shown in the footage. The video began circulating from midday.
In their official statement, Police said that such actions and behaviour are unacceptable as they “insult the work of the thousands of our members who serve their duty.”
