Police in Limassol are carrying out examinations and collecting evidence following an incident on Monday night, in which a group of youths reportedly set fire to tyres placed in the middle of a roundabout in the Kolonakiou area of Germasogeia.
According to Police, examinations are under way and evidence is being collected from the area, in an effort to locate and identify the young people involved and to clarify the motives behind the incident.
The incident took place at around 10:25 pm. Footage from the RoadReportCY page shows the youths gathering tyres in the road, pouring flammable liquid over them and then setting them alight.
Police were notified immediately, and patrol units went to the scene. On seeing the police patrols, the youths fled in different directions, with officers chasing them through the surrounding streets.
A driver who was in the area at the time said he saw around ten young people gathering the tyres and pouring liquid over them.
The Fire Service extinguished the blaze and took measures to ensure the safety of passing drivers.
