Akamas Municipality has set in motion a full masterplan to regenerate and revive Peyia’s traditional centre, covering all the studies needed and supervisory services for the project’s implementation.
The first step in the ambitious plan came with the signing of a contract between the municipality and an architectural firm to provide consultancy and study services for preparing the masterplan and the studies needed for the traditional centre of the Peyia municipal district.
The signed contract is worth around 250,000 euros, while the estimated construction cost for the whole project comes to around 5.5 million euros.
Mayor of Akamas Marinos Lambrou said the start of the study lays the groundwork for the comprehensive design of a major intervention aimed at the functional and aesthetic upgrade of Peyia’s historic centre, respecting its architectural character, cultural heritage and the needs of the local community.
Any regeneration of Peyia’s centre was always going to include the area’s finest landmark, the renowned Vrysi ton Pegeiotisson fountain, for which the municipal authority has also reached an agreement on conservation and promotion.
