Paphos halts sewage leaks at Geroskipou beach

Daily inspections and equipment upgrades at a sewage treatment plant have eliminated wastewater leaks at a popular beach in Paphos, according to the head of the District’s Local Government Organisation.

Charalambos Pittokopitis, president of the Paphos District Local Government Organisation, told Phileleftheros that measures taken by the Organisation and coordination with other involved services have prevented recurrence of the problem at the Geroskipou coastal area.

Pittokopitis described the repeated sewage overflows at Geroskipou beach in previous years as criminal and expressed confidence that the measures would permanently eliminate the phenomenon that tarnishes Paphos’s reputation.

The authority has implemented daily on-site inspections at the treatment plant and pumping station, replaced worn and outdated pipes and pumps, and improved machinery maintenance, Pittokopitis said.
