A 27-year-old man reported to police that his motorbike was stolen while parked outside the apartment building where he lives in Paphos.
Police said the complaint was filed around midday on Sunday after the vehicle was taken from outside the building.
At around 6 pm the same day, the complainant spotted the motorbike on Evagora Pallikaridi Street. When he tried to secure it, two men unknown to him allegedly attacked him, hitting him and knocking him to the ground before leaving the scene while riding away on the stolen motorbike.
The complainant managed to stop one of the two men at a nearby location but did not recover the motorbike.
Police officers who attended the scene checked the details of the man who had been stopped and found he was 31 years old.
The man was taken to the Paphos Central Police Station, where he was arrested under a court warrant on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a felony, robbery, theft, assault causing actual bodily harm and malicious property damage. He was taken into custody.
The complainant was examined by the doctor on duty at Paphos General Hospital, where he was found to have a scalp haematoma and abrasions.
The Paphos Criminal Investigation Department is continuing its inquiries.
