Police in Paphos arrested an 18-year-old man on Monday in connection with the killing of a cat found dead near its owner’s home, which a post-mortem showed had 13 pellets from a firearm in its body.
Besides the cat’s killing, Paphos CID is investigating offences including illegal possession and transport of a firearm and explosives, firing a gun in a residential area, and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour and a serious offence.
The case came to light on Sunday, October 4, when a 56-year-old man reported to police that he had found his cat dead. Officers from the Cyprus Animal Police and Paphos central police station went to the scene the same day to examine it, and the post-mortem was carried out on Monday.
The 18-year-old was arrested on a court warrant, and a number of items of evidence were found and seized during a search of his home.
Paphos CID is continuing its investigation.
