Two fires that broke out in the Paphos district on Saturday were brought under control within minutes after burning small areas of low vegetation, the Forestry Department said.
The first fire broke out at 13:45 at the “Agiasmos” location in Ineia, Paphos district, the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment said.
The department said the fire was detected early by its electro-optical forest fire detection and monitoring system, allowing forestry firefighting crews to respond immediately.
The blaze was brought under control at 14:20 after burning a small area of low vegetation. Six Forestry Department personnel and two fire engines took part in the operation.
A second fire broke out at 15:15 at the “Faraklos” location in Neo Chorio, also in the Paphos district, the department said in a later announcement.
That fire was brought under control at 15:40 after burning a small area with rubbish and low vegetation. Five Forestry Department personnel and one fire engine took part in the operation.
The causes of both fires are under investigation.
