Police arrested two men in Paphos during an operation that uncovered 150 kilograms of cables used exclusively by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) at two metal trading and recycling premises.
According to police, the two property owners, both Paphos residents, were arrested and charged in writing before being released, to be summoned to court at a later stage.
Officers found 50 kilograms of chopped-up cables at the first premises. A further 100 kilograms of the same type of cable were seized at the second. Police added that similar cable theft has been observed in Paphos before.
Police carried out the investigation as part of a coordinated operation targeting illegal metal trading and trafficking. The seized cables were taken as evidence, and investigations are continuing to determine their origin and any possible involvement of the suspects in other cable theft cases.
