No beds available at Paphos children’s ward as seasonal virus cases surge

The paediatric ward at Paphos General Hospital is operating at full capacity, forcing parents to seek treatment for their children at Limassol General Hospital amid a sharp rise in seasonal virus infections.

Hospital sources report that the surge in admissions has led to severe congestion in the paediatric department, with no beds available for several days. Non-emergency cases are being redirected to Limassol General Hospital, which currently has sufficient bed capacity to handle the overflow.

Paphos Deputy Mayor Angelos Onisiforou confirmed he has received numerous complaints from local parents about the situation. He said he has made representations to both hospital administrators and the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) to find an urgent solution.

“This situation cannot continue for days, as children are not only subjected to distress but may be at risk in cases of serious illness before they can be transferred to Limassol Hospital. Parents are also facing significant burden from constant travel between Paphos and Limassol”, Onisiforou told philenews.
