A 24-year-old man has been remanded in custody for seven days by Larnaca District Court over the Easter Sunday stabbing of a 19-year-old at a nightclub on Mackenzie beach.
The suspect was being sought by police and was arrested yesterday by CID Larnaca officers. According to police sources, he is refusing to cooperate with the investigation.
He is being investigated for attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, assault causing grievous bodily harm and carrying a knife.
The two men were unknown to each other. At around 10 pm on Easter Sunday, the pair accidentally collided in the crowded nightclub.
An argument followed, during which the suspect said he had been attacked and hit in the face.
The victim then began walking away to rejoin his group. At some point he felt a burning sensation on the right rear side of his body and realised he was bleeding.
Friends took the victim to the emergency department of Larnaca General Hospital, where he was found to have a 3cm wound to the right kidney area and a ruptured kidney caused by a sharp object. He is in a serious condition but out of danger.
