A 48-year-old man was sentenced to six years in prison today by the Larnaca Criminal Court after being found guilty of assaulting his partner and threatening to disseminate videos of their private moments.

The man was convicted on charges including threatening to disseminate material (falling under personal data protection legislation), grievous bodily harm, theft, and threatening violence.

The trial was held behind closed doors to protect the identity of the victim, who reported the case to the Larnaca CID’s family violence unit last July. The complainant was the main prosecution witness, and her testimony was deemed credible by the court. She had reported that her 48-year-old partner had assaulted her on one occasion and threatened to share private videos on social media, of which she was unaware.

Following her complaint, the 48-year-old was arrested, and material was found and confiscated from his mobile phone during examinations.
