A 26-year-old man was arrested in Limassol last night after failing to stop for police, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and subsequently crashing his vehicle.
The incident occurred around 11:20 pm when the driver ignored traffic police signals to stop for a routine check in Limassol. He accelerated in an attempt to evade police.
During the ensuing police pursuit, the driver committed multiple traffic offences before losing control of his vehicle on Spyros Kyprianou Avenue, where he crashed into a road divider.
Tests revealed the Limassol resident was driving with a blood alcohol level of 66mg%, nearly triple the legal limit of 22mg%. He also tested positive for drugs.
No injuries were reported from the crash.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and remains in custody as police continue their investigation.
