Police are continuing their intensive investigation into the murder of Stavros Demosthenous, who was killed in front of his son in what authorities describe as a mafia-style execution in Limassol.

Evidence, forensic tests on a cap found at the scene, and examinations of the motorcycle used in the getaway may reveal the perpetrators’ identities, investigators said.

Authorities are utilising all available resources, from CCTV footage to digital data and witness statements, in their efforts to fully solve the case. Meanwhile, following the arrest of the 44-year-old motorcycle owner, the circle of arrests appears to be widening.

According to Phileleftheros sources, results from forensic examinations of the cap found at the scene of the burnt white van are expected today. The cap apparently fell from the motorcycle driver during the escape.

Investigators are hopeful that genetic material of the suspect may be found on the cap. Simultaneously, results from examinations of the motorcycle used by the perpetrators to flee from the arson site are also expected.

Authorities have issued arrest warrants after obtaining evidence against two individuals suspected of aiding the murderers’ escape.

The same sources indicate that the 44-year-old suspect, arrested Saturday night and placed in eight-day detention, had transferred ownership of the high-powered scooter allegedly used in the escape to another person days before the killing.

Upon his arrest, he reportedly told investigators, “I have no idea”.

As stated by the investigator before the Limassol District Court, a significant amount of investigative work remains, extending beyond testimonies. Data will be recovered from the mobile phones of both the victim and the 44-year-old suspect.

Additionally, three more searches at specific locations are planned, while dozens of hours of CCTV footage from Limassol and Nicosia, covering an extended period, are being evaluated.

Police examinations revealed that the van used in the murder had fake registration plates. The vehicle had been stolen on September 4, 2025, from Kokkinotrimithia.

The same vehicle was captured by security cameras moving near the victim’s residence days before the murder, strengthening suspicions that Demosthenous was under close surveillance.

According to CCTV footage, around 09:28 – minutes after the murder – a white van was seen moving on Potamias Street, heading south. The vehicle entered a dirt road near the Germasogeia River, where it was later found burning. A high-powered scooter with one rider was moving ahead of it.

After the arson, the scooter left the area carrying two passengers, heading toward Andokidou Street. The driver was wearing a cap – which fell during the escape – while the passenger wore a helmet and had a bag on his back.

Shortly afterwards, a motorcycle of the same type and description, carrying two individuals, was recorded moving on Alkaiou Street (continuation of Andokidou Street) in Germasogeia, heading east, and subsequently on Charalambous Evagorou Street, also eastbound, until a few metres before where it was discovered.
