A bus driver was injured after a firecracker was thrown through his window while driving along the Amathus coastal route in Limassol at around 4pm on Thursday.
According to reports, two motorcyclists approached the bus, which was carrying several passengers, before one threw a firecracker through the driver’s window. The explosive detonated just centimetres from the driver’s face.
Despite the shock, the driver managed to safely bring the vehicle to a halt. Passengers called for an ambulance while colleagues driving in the opposite direction witnessed the incident and alerted both EMEL (the bus company) and police.
Members of Limassol CID and an explosives expert attended the scene to gather evidence.

EMEL spokesperson Petros Theocharides told Philenews that similar incidents had occurred the previous evening involving two other drivers on the same route, though no injuries were reported.
Police reportedly have descriptions of the motorcycle and suspects, and statements are being taken.
The injured driver sustained minor facial injuries and was taken to hospital for medical examinations and a CT scan.
