Limassol CID is investigating a case of abduction and grievous bodily harm after a 24-year-old man, previously reported to be 22, said three men grabbed him from a park on Friday evening, forced him into a vehicle and took him to an isolated rural area, where they allegedly beat him and injured him with a knife.

The men allegedly suspected the 24-year-old, a Turkish Cypriot, of involvement in recent thefts of hunting dogs, Limassol assistant police director Lefteris Kyriakou said.

According to the 24-year-old’s complaint, the three men approached him in a park in the Agios Antonios area of Limassol, Kyriakou said.

Police were not informed of the incident until Monday morning. Kyriakou said the 24-year-old had allegedly given a different account at the hospital, and the circumstances of his initial report are being investigated.

Investigators are taking statements and assessing the evidence, with the aim of securing enough to justify court arrest warrants. Kyriakou said developments were expected soon.
