A 48-year-old man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to the sole charge he faced, manslaughter, moving his case before the Limassol Criminal Court toward resolution. He had been on trial over the fatal stabbing of his elderly father, Giorgos Hadjigeorgiou, in Limassol in the early hours of July 9, 2025.

Following the change of plea, the court set the case for the end of September, when the facts will be presented and sentence passed on the 48-year-old.

According to the case, the 48-year-old attacked his father with a knife, inflicting nine wounds in total. A post-mortem found six wounds to the chest and three to the hand, two of which were fatal.

The 48-year-old had already confessed to the killing on the same day, during a written interview at Limassol CID offices.

According to what he said at the time, he carried out the attack because he believed his father was a “freemason” with an “aura” that, he claimed, made him ill whenever he got close to him.

These claims were presented before the Criminal Court at the previous hearing.
