A lawyer has made a serious allegation of police violence in Larnaca against a 17-year-old, calling for an investigation into the incident.

A video has been released in connection with the alleged event, appearing to show the minor being restrained.

In a statement, the law firm Paris Loizou & Associates LLC said they “received instructions last night, 08/04/2025, from Mr. K.K. to appear and represent his minor son after the latter was arrested by members of the Larnaca Police Directorate near his home, without any explanation being given to his parents regarding the reasons for his arrest.”

According to the statement, during the lawyer’s visit to the location, “to my surprise, I observed a strong police presence and the minor in handcuffs without sufficient explanation being provided. When I asked the supervising Assistant Chief Constable about the reasons for my minor client’s arrest, I received no answer, and this was in the presence of the minor’s parents.”

Throughout the incident, the lawyer claims that “various illegal actions were carried out by and at the direction of the aforementioned Assistant Chief Constable and his subordinates, with the exception of a few who simply stood by as very serious criminal offences were committed, as you will see in the visual material that will be sent to you and which was taken at the scene.”

The actions of this small group of police officers, the lawyer notes, “go beyond all legality and logic in a modern state governed by the rule of law and, at the same time, undermine the excellent work of the Larnaca Police Directorate for the most part, headed by Mr. Zachariou.”

In conclusion, he states that “there is no longer any justification, neither from the Chief of Police nor from the Minister of Justice, but especially from the President of the Republic himself, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, since he is also a parent, and I call on him to take immediate action within the framework defined by the Law.”
