A 45-year-old man was arrested at Larnaca Airport shortly before 10:30am today on a court warrant in connection with an online holiday rental scam that netted several thousand euros from five victims.
The suspect is being investigated for obtaining money by false pretences, theft, impersonation and money laundering.
Five complainants filed a report with the CID Famagusta on May 6, saying they had seen online adverts for apartment rentals in Ayia Napa and Protaras.
The apartments, it emerged, did not belong to the person who posted the adverts. When the victims arrived at the properties, they found them already occupied. The suspect had obtained several thousand euros from the five complainants under the pretence of renting them an apartment.
Police examination of the case produced evidence against the 45-year-old, on the basis of which a court arrest warrant was issued. He was arrested at Larnaca Airport and placed in custody for investigation purposes.
The suspect had previously come to the attention of CID Larnaca in connection with similar cases.
The case is being investigated by CID Famagusta.
