Lakatamia municipality has issued a serious warning to the public, denying social media posts and reports claiming that permission has been granted to use Mangli Lake.
The municipality said no such permission had been issued by either the local authority or the mayor.
It added that the lake is privately owned and that the municipality has no authority or jurisdiction to permit public use of the site.
The municipality also warned that the lake is extremely dangerous and unsuitable for swimming or any other activity, saying its use could pose a serious risk to people’s safety and lives.
The matter has already been reported to police, it said.
The municipality urged the public to disregard inaccurate and misleading information circulating on social media and to rely only on its official announcements.
